Bit bulls are fantastic and friendly pets that ought to be treated and taken care of in the best way possible. However, Caitlyn got it rough in the hands of a ruthless man. This one year and three months old innocent creature was found half dead, her nose tired with a duct tape for two good days. Caitlyn has made significant improvements; all thanks to the earnest efforts of the staff at Veterinary Specialty Care in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Dr. Henri Bianucci told WCIV, “Her tongue was in way better condition that we anticipated. It was initially assessed that we would lose about a third of her tongue, and we sort of revised that estimate to a fourth, but I don’t think she lost an eighth of it.”
Caitlyn’s previous owner had sold her to an unknown man for 20 dollars not knowing what would arise after. She suffered two days of torture; no food or drink, tongue hanged out and swollen since it had no blood circulation, pain and other hardships she underwent. In fact, her tongue was severely damaged to the extent the vets thought it had to be removed. Fortunately, it was not. If she could speak, am sure the list would be long.
No one knows if Caitlyn’s new owner threw her out or she managed to run away. She was found close to her previous home seriously ill. Charleston Animal Society rushed her to a veterinary hospital. Her critical condition called for admission to intensive care.
Deep wounds that were seen on Caitlyn’s muzzle proved that the tape was so tight on her mouth. The vets used antibiotics, laser and hyperbaric treatments to heal the wounds. Initially, she was not capable of eating or drinking anything hence she received intravenous therapy. With time, her health improved and was able to swallow solid food, though in small quantities.
Caitlyn’s abuse story caught the attention of many in the nation. They sympathized with her and were against that act. Humane Society promised to give $5,000 to anyone who had relevant information on the brutal man. This news also touched corner Conner Shaw, a former South Carolina Gamecocks player and currently plays for the Cleveland Browns, was willing to donate this amount.
The authorities acted accordingly. William Leonard Dodson, forty-one years old, was suspected, arrested and charged with ill treatment and torture of animals. The court instructed him to give away his other dog and was forbidden from keeping any other pet in his home. In any case, if he is guilty, it was a fair judgment.

Toby’s Fund received lots of donations and calls from people all over the nation who were greatly touched by Caitlyn’s experience. This fund finances any medication received by mistreated and forsaken dogs. The campaign against animal abuse was embraced by everyone after they were inspired by the rough journey the bull pit underwent.
Meanwhile, Caitlyn’s quick recovery is incredible. She has recovered enough to pose with shirtless Charleston firefighters for the annual calendar that is the main fundraiser for Toby’s Fund. She is receiving much affection now more than ever. Toby’s Fund has continued to support Caitlyn and other pets with a similar story like hers.

The innocent pet is now living the life she deserves, just like the other lucky pit bulls. She made many friends within a short period. Who can forgo the chance of owning this awesome dog? I don’t think anyone can. Unfortunately, she can only be accommodated by one family at a go.
A foster home temporarily adopts her. In this home, she has more than enough company; Oreo, a male dog, and a human brother. It is evident from a video posted by Charleston Animal Society that Caitlyn has healed fully; her behavior and actions are just like those of an ordinary dog. She is seen spending time with Ore and enjoying every moment. The two are just compatible; separating them would be difficult.
Many have been inquiring about her adoption status, hoping to be given an opportunity to adopt her. According to Charleston Animal Society, the chances are that she would continue living with her foster brother, Oreo, during the period of the trial that might take a long time. Precisely a year or more after which a final decision on her adopter will be made.
Whichever home Caitlyn will live, in the long run, all she deserves is adequate care, compassion, and love. She fought hard to live during her unpleasant moments and in the end she emerged victoriously. It is now her time to live a comfortable and beautiful life.
Caitlyn represents other pit bulls undergoing harsh treatments and emerging victoriously. Wicked pet owners should change or face punishment. Although Caitlyn’s story is not our typical Pit Bull Hero Story where a pit bull saves its owner from a fire, a bee swarm, or an oncoming train. We believe Caitlyn’s recovery from horrific abuse is very heroic indeed, don’t you? Long live Caitlyn!
