Does Your Dog Hate Daylight Saving Time?

Many people hate Daylight Saving Time, but does your dog hate it too. Pamela Webster on her blog claims that both her and her dog hates the clock changing process. I am sure your dog could care less about whether Daylight Saving Time helps farmers, hurts retailers, or cost the U.S. economy $434 million per year according to the Lost Hour Economic Index.  No, what every dog in America will want to know Sunday morning are three things:

1)      Why are you still in bed?

2)      Why are we not going for a walk?

3)      Where’s breakfast?

In case you do not already know, set your clocks back 1 hour on Sunday at 2am.  Why do they always tell us to set the clocks back at 2am. Are we really suppose to wake up a do this at this exact time? Anyways, I digress, what I really wanted to share with you is the one hour change can cause anxiety to your dog.  Most dogs cannot tell time but they do have excellent internal clocks and an hour change could make a difference in your dog’s expectations.  This is especially true if you follow a rigid routine yourself.

To help your dog ramp up to the new time and avoid any unnecessary anxiety, Michael Barmish on Ceasar’s Way provides the some good advice.  He suggest you start you routine a little later each day so it is not so sudden.  I am afraid it is too late for me and my dog. We are both just going to have to deal with it.
